Mr Baxi - Elected Chairman for CII Pune
Demag takes pride in announcing that Mr. Suhas Baxi was formally elected as the Chairman of CII
Pune Zone on March 12, 2010 on the Annual Day of CII.
Mr. Baxi commenced the session with his welcome note followed by a presentation on a series of
events and special initiatives taken by CII during the last year. He also gave a gist of various
events in addition to his impressions on the various discussions in which he was a part of. Many of
our functional heads were also present during the event.
Prarambh – A New Beginning through learning
Demag understands its responsibility towards its employees, customers and also the society at large.
A social initiative was undertaken last year to ensure that children of migrant construction workers
are exposed to the three r’s of basic education – reading/writing/arithmetic. Demag has now started
‘Prarambh’ – a mobile learning platform, which operates at our construction site in Chakan. The site
has small dwellings of construction workers whose children are deprived of education. We felt that
this basic need has to be fulfilled. As a first step, ‘Prarambh’ will impart basic lessons not just
on the three r’s but also on hygiene & sanitation. At a later stage, after our site activities are
completed, the program will be extended to nearby construction sites.
Chakan – The Much Awaited Move!
As the first step towards enhanced manufacturing capability in DCC India, we are pleased to inform that
the new manufacturing facility at Chakan has become functional from 2nd March 2010. Chakan is now the
registered manufacturing location for DCC IN. Activities like plate cutting, crab production, end carriage
production, portal leg fabrication, shot blasting, painting, KBK manufacturing and trading warehouses are
operating now from Chakan.
Approximately 80 people work from Chakan in 2 shifts. The temporary work office is currently operational
with basic utilities and is expected to be completed soon.
The team effort responsible for making this happen are the Special Projects team, Planning & Execution as
well as Purchase teams. The Administration team also has contributed by providing the transport& canteen
facilities and ensuring safety for all employees.
